Adan Cadena Obituary
EDINBURG - Adan G. Cadena, 87, went peacefully in his sleep surrounded by his loved ones at his bedside, Sunday morning, January 24, 2010, at his residence in Edinburg. He was born in Weslaco on May 4, 1922 to Alfredo and Trinidad Cadena.
Mr. Cadena joined the US Navy in 1942 and served two years on the ship USS McKee during World War II. During that time he married the love of his life Adelia Garcia, raised eleven children and was dedicated to his children, his church and his job. He was employed with the City of Edcouch as City Secretary in 1958. He then moved
on to Building Code Inspector with the City of Edinburg in 1968. He served as Chairman of the March of Dimes for many years. He served as a volunteer for the Edinburg Hospital Auxiliary along with his wife and put in many hours, but his greatest joy was being an active member of the Edcouch and Edinburg Fire Departments since 1959, even serving as an officer of the State Firemen's & Fire Marshals' Association.
He is preceded in death by a son, Amado Cadena; a great-grandson, Michael Scot Requenez; his parents, Alfredo and Trinidad Cadena; four brothers, Nene, Amado, Arturo and Adrian and his only sister, Celia.
Mr. Cadena is survived by his loving wife, Adelia Cadena of 67 years; ten children, Amelia (Herbert) Balli, Aurora (Daniel) Gutierrez, Nina Nelson, Celi (Joe) Pena, Alma Cadena, Adan "Danny" (Edna) Cadena Jr., Adalberto "Bob" Cadena, Anna (Homer) Diaz, Arleen (Joe ) Aguilar and Arnold (Martha) Cadena, 28 grandchildren including Arnie and David Cadena (who he loved and cared for like his own sons) and 28 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Nicolas Cadena and Alfredo Cadena.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary today, January 26, 2010, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 27, 2010, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Edinburg. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Edinburg.
He was indeed a loving husband, the best father and grandfather in the world and will be dearly missed. The family would especially like to thank Dr. Monzer Yazji, Joaquin Rodriguez, Lydia Flores, Deacon Alvin Gerbermann, Chief Shawn Snider, Richard Drewry and the rest of the Edinburg Fire Department, Constable Eddie Guerra and
Constable Larry Gallardo.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.

To the entire Cadena family and to his lovely wife whom we have known for many years. We are so saddended to hear of the loss of Mr. Cadena. We are the Guajardo family (Henry and Sylvia) from Weslaco, Texas we were Grandma Trinidad Cadena's neighbors. Mr. Cadena was an amazing man and a perfect son to his mom (Trinita) We would talk to him just about every day when he would visit his mom.
