CAROLYN KAY WEST- HINOJOSA Carolyn Kay West- Hinojosa has been called into heavenly rest alongside our Almighty God. At the age of 56, she passed away due to respiratory difficulties while receiving medical assistance at Harlingen Medical Center. She was called back home on January 15, 2014. She was currently residing in Mercedes, Texas. Carolyn Kay was brought into this world on June 9, 1957; she was born in Scotts City, Kansas. Her parents were Jack and Elizabeth West. She was one of 19 brothers and sisters; Carolyn's brothers are Arthur J. West (Susie), Jack H. West (Shelley), David L. West, Patrick West (Debbie), Louis P. West, Gene H. West, and Terry J. West (Beverly); Carolyn's sisters are Margaret J. Ellison, Mary Wasinger (Dale), Elizabeth J. Bradley. Martha Jonagan (Dale), Dorotha A. Reynolds, Ruth J. West, Kathryn L. Church (Gary), Rebecca S. Morton (Stan), Barbara S. Betzold (Morris), and Virginia L. Leonard (Mitch). Carolyn was married to Salvador Hector Hinojosa Jr. for 16 years. They got married at Faith Pleases God Church on November 15, 1997 in Harlingen, Texas. She received a Bachelor's degree from the University of Texas at Austin in the field of Accounting. She further attained her Master's degree from the University of Texas at Pan American in the field of Rehabilitation Counseling. She graduated at the top of her class, earning a 4.0 GPA. She also successfully endeavored to attain licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). She additionally attained a certification for Legal Mediation. Carolyn was currently employed as a LPC in the mental health agency of Positive Awakenings Counseling Center. She was passionate about the counseling profession, and she strived to facilitate the therapeutic betterment of all of her clients. Among other things, Carolyn was an avid reader, a nutrition guru, a lover of gospel music, a painter, and a potter. Carolyn Kay is survived by her spouse, Salvador H. Hinojosa Jr., her daughter Sunshine R. Pham (Johnny), her grandchildren Cole Kim Pham and Violette Sunshine Pham, her step-children, Salvador Marcos Hinojosa (Venessa), Marina Gonzalez (Eli, Maia Flores and Abram Flores). Services for Carolyn will be held at Flores Funeral Home in Mission, Texas on Saturday, January 18, 2014. A viewing will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Saturday and a memorial service will take place from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Flores Funeral Home in Mission, Texas can be contacted for more information at 956-585-2611.
