CLAUDIO A. HINOJOSA Jr. Obituary
CLAUDIO A. HINOJOSA JR. MERCEDES - Claudio A. Hinojosa, Jr. of Mercedes, Texas was called home to heaven on Monday, May 5, 2014 after a battle with cancer. Visitation will take place on Sunday May 11, 2014 at 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Garcia and Trevino Funeral Home located at 439 S. Vermont Ave. Mercedes, Texas 78570. A celebration of life service will be held at 10:00 am, Monday, May 12 at First United Methodist Church, Pastor Kevin Harden will be officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Park 6705 N FM 88 Weslaco, Texas. Claudio was born October 29, 1936 in Peñitas, Texas to Claudio and Alicia Hinojosa. He graduated from Mercedes High School and attended Pan American University. He married the former Belinda Rios. Claudio was employed as a boot maker. He had a love for exotic leather and cowboy boots and could talk for hours about each. He served as a City Commissioner and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Mercedes. As a Navy Veteran, he lived his life according to the core values of faith and family and spent a part of each day with his children and grandchildren. El "Papa de los pollitos" took great pride in the accomplishments of his family and leaves behind a legacy of servant leaders. Claudio is survived by his daughter, Melissa Hinojosa White and her husband Tracy White along with his son, Claudio Alejandro Hinojosa, III and his wife Dr. Barbara Baggerly-Hinojosa all of Mercedes, Texas. In addition, Claudio is survived by six grandchildren: Elayne White, Benjamin Hinojosa, Kaylin White, Payton White, Ana Alicia Hinojosa, and Isaac Hinojosa. Also surviving are brothers D.A. Hinojosa (Sue) of Austin, Texas; Santiago Hinojosa (Cecilia) of Dallas, Texas; sisters Vangie Garza (Joe) of Weslaco, Texas; and Diana McDonald (Mike) of Turlock, California. Claudio leaves behind many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Claudio and Alicia Hinojosa.
