DOROTHY GRACE TURNER JENKINS Obituary
DOROTHY GRACE TURNER JENKINS Dorothy Grace Turner Jenkins passed away on Monday, April 7, 2014. She was the only child of Grace Taylor and Roy Mark Turner. Dorothy was born on July 1, 1921 in Luling, TX and moved with her parents to Seguin on her first birthday. She graduated Salutatorian from Seguin High School. Dorothy had a lifelong love of music. She played the violin and sang in many choruses and choirs over the years. She attended the University of Texas in Austin and while there she sang in the Opera Company, was a Blue Bonnet Belle, and a member of Chi Omega Sorority. She moved to Houston and joined the choir at First United Methodist Church. It was there that she met and married Kenneth Allen Jenkins and they raised their two daughters. In 1975 they moved to McAllen, TX and in 1996, after Ken's death, she moved to Kerrville. Some of Dottie's many actives were PEO, the Chi Omega Alumnae, The Bluebird Circle, the McAllen Opera Guild, several book clubs and bridge clubs and the Pocos Locos Play Group. She is survived by daughters Catherine Vivien Jenkins Comiskey and husband Bill of Burton, TX and Patricia Grace Jenkins Jones and husband Jay of Fredericksburg, TX, five grandchildren; Kenneth Comiskey, Aimee Comiskey, Lauren and husband Andy Barner, Collier Jones and wife Jennifer, Ashley Grace Byrd Jones, and seven great-grandchildren. Dottie was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and she will always be remembered for her sweet smile and her warm and friendly personality! The family would like to thank Anita Hernandez for her many years of loyal and devoted service, first as Dorothy and Ken's house keeper and later as Dorothy's care giver. Anita you are the best and we love you! A service to celebrate Dorothy's life will be held on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at 2 pm in the chapel of St. Luke's United Methodist Church, (3471 Westheimer, Houston, TX 77027) where her ashes will be placed in the St. Luke's Memorial Garden next to her husband of 55 years. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the First United Methodist Church of Mc Allen, 4200 N. McCall Rd., Mc Allen, TX 78504, to the Blue Bird Circle, 615 W.
