IRVIN E. "MIKE" PROPST McAllen – Irvin E. "Mike" Propst, age 89, was born on September 12, 1923, and entered into eternal rest on May 24, 2013 at Rio Grande Regional Hospital in McAllen, TX. Mike was born in Steamboat Rock, IA, to Julia and Abel Propst. He spent his early years on his family's farms in Iowa; moving from Grundy Center to Eldora to Marshalltown. Mike found himself in Corpus Christi, TX, at the Naval Air Station for his service as a pilot in the U.S. Marine Corps, rising to the rank of Captain. It was in Corpus that he met and fell in love with his beloved wife of 64 years, Catherine Joy Propst. Mike came to McAllen in 1957 as sales manager of Burns Motors with his family following in 1958. In 1972, Mike opened Mike Propst Auto Sales, where he worked until January 2012. Mike is predeceased by his wife, Catherine Joy Propst, and his sister, Margaret Propst Imburgia. He is survived by his children: Michael & Sandy Propst, Mara Lessa & Alter Holand and Gregory & Sandy Propst; his grandchildren: Annie Holand & Cramer Miller, Amanda Propst & Luis Cuevas, Christopher & Margie Propst, Eric & Mayra Propst, Joey Holand, Gregory & Lindsey Propst, Matthew Propst and Zachary Propst; and his great-grandchildren: Sutton, Mykel & Meryk Propst, and Kern & Holand Miller. Mike's family would like to thank the nurses and staff at the Alfredo Gonzalez Veterans Home, Dr. Olga Olivares-Herrera, Rio Grande Regional Hospital, and his devoted caregivers: Tony, Ram, David, Toby & Daniel. Visitation will be held today, Tuesday, May 28th, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Skinner-Silva Funeral Home at 706 West Sam Houston in Pharr. Graveside funeral services will be held at 9:00 AM, Wednesday, May 29th, at Hillcrest Memorial Park at 1701 East Richardson in Edinburg with Pastor Ron Smith officiating. Military honors will be under the direction of VFW, Post 8788 of McAllen. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Palm Valley Animal Center, 2501 West Trenton Road, Edinburg, TX 78539; the Veterans War Memorial of Texas, C/O COL Frank S. Plummer, 8609 N.
