LOIS IRENE WELCH MILLER Obituary
LOIS IRENE WELCH MILLER Lois Irene Welch Miller, age 73, was received into Jesus Christ's arms on September 17, 2013, in McAllen, TX after battling Parkinson's Disease and severe dementia. She was born in Sioux City, IA on July 7, 1940 and Born Again at age 9. She married Thomas J Miller, in 1965, at the Billy Sunday Memorial Tabernacle in Sioux City, IA. She moved to the Rio Grande Valley in 1981, with her husband and son, to teach for McAllen Independent School District. She taught Migrant Kinder, Kinder, 1st Grade, and 2nd Grade at Bonham Elementary and 4th Grade and Special Education at Fields Elementary School, McAllen, TX. She retired from McAlIen ISD in May 2000 after teaching 20 years. She was preceded in death by her father, Raymond L. Welch of Milwaukee, WI; mother, Arcelia Fay Welch, of Sioux City, IA; and a brother, Michal Welch, of Eugene, OR. She is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Thomas J. Miller Sr., a son, Thomas J. Miller Jr. of Buda, TX; a brother, Kenneth L. Welch of Washta, IA; and three grandsons: Alan Young of McAllen, TX, Thomas J. Miller III and Travis Jack Miller of Buda, TX and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins. Most precious to her were: Her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ; husband Tom, son Tom Jr., daughter-in-law Tammie and "super" grandsons Alan, Thomas III and Travis. Lois graduated from Central High School, Sioux City, IA 1959; attended Bob Jones University, Greenville, SC 1962 (Christian Service Certificate); attended Westmar College, LeMars, IA 1979; and graduated from The University of Northern Iowa(BA), Cedar Falls, IA 1980. She held both Iowa and Texas Elementary Teaching Certificates. Lois enjoyed many things: telling children about her Savior Jesus Christ, teaching neighborhood Child Evangelism classes in her home, teaching Daily Vacation Bible School and teaching in public education. She loved to sing and sang solo to her Lord at the Billy Sunday Memorial Tabernacle, Sioux City, lA, Faith Baptist Church, Mission, TX, and Maranatha Baptist Church, McAlIen, TX. Neighbors even commented how they liked hearing her sing as she hung out the clothes on wash day. She collected Christian fiction paperbacks, anything about the Amish and "Precious Moments" figurines; and, Oh Ya, clothes! Clothes for all seasons and holidays-¬remember, she was an elementary school teacher. She always decorated the house for every season and holiday. She loved to hostess game nights and meals with family and friends. She was a "tough competitor" when playing Tough 13 and Enhanced UNO. Her "major food "groups" were bread, corn and potatoes--in that order! She was not a meat or pizza lover! She will be greatly missed. Her memorial service will be at 10:30 AM Saturday, October 12, 2013 at Calvary Baptist Church, 1600 Harvey, McAlIen, TX 78501. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to Children's Home of the Mountains Ministry, c/o Calvary Baptist Church, 1600 Harvey, McAllen, TX 78501. www.kredilerfuneralhome.com Sign the guest book at www.themonitor.com/obituaries
