Floyd A. "Whitey" Rumschlag

FOSTORIA: Floyd A. "Whitey" Rumschlag, 96, of Fostoria, passed away at 6:57 pm Monday, December 2, 2013 at Fostoria Community Hospital.

He was born February 18, 1917 in New Riegel to John and Emma (Geckle) Rumschlag.

He married Betty C. Craley on February 15, 1947 at St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria and she died December 13, 2007.

Surviving are seven children, Sister Mary Dianne (Barbara) Rumschlag SND, Jacksonville, FL, Michael L. (Hio I.) Rumschlag, Howell, MI, Jerry C. (Mary Jane) Rumschlag, Fostoria, Mary C. (David) Gierhart, Clyde, Christine M. Rumschlag, Fostoria, Theresa M. (William) Moody, Bowling Green and Denise L. (Paul) Hieronymus, Avon; 18 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; two brothers, Orland "Tub" (Deana) Rumschlag and John (Sally) Rumschlag, Fostoria.

He was preceded in death by three sons, William, Joseph and Anthony Rumschlag; three sisters, Margaret Clements, Marcella Potteiger and Eleanor Moffitt; seven brothers, Raymond, Herbert, Henry, Charlie, Elias, including two infant brothers named John.

Floyd retired in 1976 as a stockroom attendant from Autolite, Fostoria after 30 years of service. He also had been the owner and operator of Rumschlag's Hauling, Fostoria for 25 years 1960-1985. He was a member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council 1197, VFW, a WW II US Army veteran and Past President of Fostoria Local UAW 533. He was a member of the 37th Infantry Division assisting in the Liberation of Manila and serving four years in the Pacific having been awarded the Bronze Star and other medals. He met annually for over 60 years for reunions with his Army Company in Tiffin. He was a faithful man who appreciated the company of family and friends and enjoyed fishing and playing cards.

Visitation is Friday, December 6, 2013 from 1-3 & 5-7 pm at HOENING FUNERAL HOME 242 W. Tiffin St., Fostoria where a Christian Wake service will be held at 2:45 pm.

Mass of Christian Burial is Saturday 10:30 am at St. Wendelin Catholic Church, where a Rosary will be prayed at 10 am. Committal services and Military Honors will take place at the Veterans' Memorial Chapel of Fountain Cemetery, and burial will follow in St. Wendelin Cemetery.
