Walter "Bill" R. Buehler

FREMONT: Walter "Bill" R. Buehler, 93, of Fremont, OH passed away on Monday, March 4, 2013 at Bethesda Care Center surrounded by his family.

He was born on October 13, 1919 in Rice Township, OH to John W. and Jennie (Gahn) Buehler.

Bill served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the South Pacific, from 1942 to 1945 and was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon w/3 Bronze Stars and w/Bronze Arrowhead; Philippine Liberation Ribbon; Good Conduct Ribbon and WWII Victory Medal.

Bill married Doris Tusen in 1941 at St. John's Church in Fremont and she died in 1961. He married Bertha C. (Lagrou) Mahr on January 27, 1967 in Dearborn, MI and she preceded him in death on January 30, 2010.

Bill worked at Herbrand for twenty years and then worked as a Street Superintendant for the City of Fremont for twenty-two years, retiring in 1984. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, a Life member of the American Legion and 40 & 8, a member of the VFW and Eagles. Bill was also a member of the American Legion Color Guard where he participated in the Flag Ceremonies at Friday night football games for many years. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, camping, woodworking, bowling, hunting, and bicycling.

Bill is survived by his children, Karen (Jan) Sorg, Fremont, OH, James (Judy) Buehler, Reynoldsburg, OH; step children, Donald (Lillie Harmon) Mahr, Ronald (Sharon) Mahr both of Fremont, OH; sister, Irene Hetrick, Fremont, OH; ten grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bertha C. Buehler; first wife, Doris Buehler; siblings, Gilbert, Lawrence, Harold and Richard Buehler, Luella Holtsberry, Hilda Bowers.

Visitation: Thursday from 2 - 4 pm and 6 - 8 pm at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E. State St, Fremont, OH. Service: Friday, March 8, 2013, 10:00 am at the funeral home with Pastor Keith Koppenhofer officiating. Burial: Roose Cemetery, Oak Harbor, OH with Military Honors.
