Gordon de France Surguine, Jr. died Tuesday, April 8 at home. He was 89 years old. He was born in Monroe where he spent most of his life, before moving to Vicksburg in recent years to live with his daughter's family.
He is the son of the late Gordon de France Surguine, Sr. and Ruth McCormick Surguine.
He attended Neville High School (class of 1942), Louisiana State University and Louisiana Tech University. During World War II, he served in the Army Air Corps. He worked in Columbia, South America for Mobile Oil, and real estate sales, appraisal, and management in Monroe. He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church of Monroe and Church of the Holy Trinity, Vicksburg. He was a member of Pot Luck Hunting Club, Rotary and Optimist Clubs of Monroe, and Delta Kappa Epsilon at LSU. He was an avid duck hunter and fisherman, and loved the outdoors, golf, and LSU and NHS football.
He is survived by his daughters Gari Surguine of Baton Rouge and Ruth Wilkerson and son-in-law Richard Wilkerson of Vicksburg; two grandsons, George and Gordon Wilkerson. In addition, he was preceded in death by his brother, Frank Surguine.
A private interment, then a memorial service with celebration of his life will be held Sunday, May 4 at 3:00 p.m. at the home of Carolyn Myrick, 1500 Island Drive, Monroe, Louisiana.
