Dr. Jack Boyd Golson





Funeral services for Dr. Jack B. Golson, age 88, of Oak Grove, Louisiana will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 12, 2012, at First United Methodist Church in Oak Grove. Reverend Doctor Curtis Carroll will officiate.

Dr. Golson passed away Sunday, November 4, 2012 at St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe, Louisiana. Dr. Golson was a long time Medical Doctor in Oak Grove.

Services are under the direction of Cox Funeral Home of Oak Grove, Louisiana.

"A gentle man of moral character, love and integrity. A quiet man who loved God, his family and his profession."

Dr. Golson was a native of Calhoun, Louisiana. He graduated Calhoun High School in 1941. He enrolled at Louisiana Tech University in Ruston as an engineering student. After WWII started, Jack joined the Navy in New Orleans on July 1, 1943 and attended Rice University taking aircraft pilot instructions. He soloed in Clarksdale, Tennessee. Soon after there was no more pilots needed for war effort, so he transfered into radio operator training in Oklahoma and Florida. He was honorably discharged in Memphis, Tennessee on December 21, 1945.

After the war, he enrolled under the GI Bill at LSU as a pre-med student. He graduated at LSU and graduated LSU Medical School in New Orleans in 1952. He Interned at Baptist Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee and family doctor general residency at E. A. Conway Hospital in Monroe, Louisiana.

Dr. Golson moved to Oak Grove in 1955 and joined medical practice with Dr. T. G. Biggs, Jr. Together they operated the Biggs & Golson Clinic in Oak Grove until West Carroll Hospital was founded. He continued his practice until his retirement after 39 years of service in West Carroll Parish. He loved his work and for many years made house calls. He enjoyed going to medical re-unions. The last one he attended was his Golden Anniversary in 2002.

After 25 years of dedicated medical service to the parish of West Carroll, the West Carroll Hospital and affiliates, ambulance service, Lion's Club, Jaycees, Gaye Auger-Laing and people in the parish celebrated the families of T. G. Biggs and Jack Golson with pictures through the years, speeches, certificates and plaques which was held at First Baptist Church in Oak Grove.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Oak Grove, the Oak Grove Lodge # 284 F.&A.M and the Oak Grove Lions Club.

Jack was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

He loved his camp on the lake in Lake Providence. He learned and like to water ski and taught many children how to water ski. One of his favorite things to do was to make improvements to the camp, especially, painting and maintenance.

He is preceded in death by his father, Norman Bruce Golson and his mother, Evie Mae Brooks Golson; his step mother, Eunice Golson; his brother, Norman Ross Golson; sister-in-law, Cascille Golson; sister, Bonnie Jean Wyly and his brother-in-law, Bill Wyly.

Dr. Golson is survived by his wife of 67 3/4 years, Dorothy Wright Golson of Oak Grove, Louisiana; son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Robert Bruce Golson and Toni Malone Golson of Monroe, Louisiana; son and daughter-in-law, David Wright Golson and Dawn Rider Golson of Swartz, Louisiana; daughter and son-in-law, May Ellen Dalrymple and Victor Robert "Vic" Dalrymple, Jr. of Oak Grove; granddaugher and her husband, Candice Doran Estridge and Darren Estridge of Southlake, Texas; grandson and his wife, Charles Robert "Robby" Dalrymple and Courtney Holt Dalrymple of Spring, Texas; grandson and his wife, Boyd Lee Dalrymple and Ashley Schmitt Dalrymple of Monroe; grandson, Austin Rider Malicoate of Swartz; granddaughter, Cayden Brooke Golson of Rayville, Louisiana; granddaughter and her husband, Jacklyn Blair Golson Ramey and Clint Ramey of Monroe, Louisiana. He is also survived by his great grandchildren, Macey Lynne Dalrymple of Calhoun, Louisiana; Elizabeth Ashley Estridge of Southlake, Texas; Michael Alexander Estridge of Southlake, Texas; Matthew Christian Estridge of Southlake, Texas; Kathryn Layne Golson of Monroe; Drake Marshall Hamel Ramey of Monroe; Caleb Hunter Ramey of Monroe; Boyd Lee "Bo" Dalrymple II of Monroe; and Griffin Lee Dalrymple of Spring, Texas. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, and sister-in-law, John and Flavia Wright of Prairieville, Louisiana and numerous nieces and nephews.

Honorary Pallbears are grandsons and grandsons-in-law.

Memorials may be made to Karen Lingo's United Methodist African Fund at First Methodist Church in Oak Grove or the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Calhoun, Louisiana.

The family of Jack and Dorothy Golson is grateful and thankful for your many expressions of love and kindness.

Private interment will be at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Calhoun, Louisiana at a later date.
