Joyce Feinstein Mehl, 95, passed away peacefully at Avalon Nursing Home on Saturday ,May 3,2014
Joyce was born on December 1, 1918 to Fannie and Julius Feinstein. She graduated from Neville High School and Louisiana State University. She also earned her Masters of Arts in Education degree from Louisiana Polytechnic Institute. Joyce spent her lengthy teaching career with 30 years at Neville High School plus 8 years at Ouachita Junior High.
Joyce was a devoted career educator.
A loving wife, mother, daughter and friend to all who enjoyed more than anything the education of children. She had an insatiable appetite for reading. She also enjoyed entertaining friends and needlepoint.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Nate Mehl; her parents Julius and Fannie Feinstein; sister Emma Jane F. Ullman.
Survivors are her three children; sons Julian and Jerry and daughter Jackie. Survivors also include daughter in law Glynda Mehl and son in law Jamie Hudson and five grandchildren. Grandchildren are Leslie Mehl, Jennifer Halpern, Dr. Judson Mehl, Cory Mehl and Cameron Mehl, great grandchildren Josh Halpern and Jordan Halpern and nieces Carol Ullman Ransom and Barbara Ulman Holley.
Memorial service will be held at a later date. The family requests memorials be sent to Joyce Mehl Scholarship Fund at Neville High School.
The family would also like to thank the staff at Avalon Nursing Home, Dr. Mike Hayward, and Louisiana Hospice.
