Esser, "Turtle" Darvin

Darvin George "Turtle" Esser, age 77 of Neshkoro, formerly of the Madison area, passed away Friday evening January 3, 2014 surrounded by his family at Theda Clark Medical Center in Neenah.
Darvin was born February 3, 1936 in Middleton, Wisconsin, a son of George M. and Violet L. (Pollow) Esser. He was raised and educated in the Madison area, and served in the United States Marine Corps from 1954 to 1957. Darvin married Mary J. Schlimgen September 7, 1959 at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Madison. Mary, his wife of 54 years survives.
He lived and worked in Madison until he retired in 1998. While living in Madison, Darvin had driven delivery trucks for General Beverage and several other companies, and drove a Madison City bus. He was a drywall taper and finisher from 1964 to1986 and was employed as a Custodian at the University of Wisonsin-Madison from 1987 to 1998. Darvin and Mary moved to Neshkoro in 1999.
Darvin was presently a member of St. James Catholic Church in Neshkoro and the Painter's & Drywallers Union of Madison. He was a past-member of the Madison Moose Club. Darvin enjoyed camping, country music, and NASCAR, most of all he loved his family.
Darvin is survived by his wife, Mary; 2 daughters, Tami (James) Scott and Kim (Jimmy) Floeter, and a son, Thomas (JoAnn) Esser, all of Neshkoro; 7 grandchildren, Josh (Amy) Scott, Stephanie Scott (Conrad Detjens), Amanda Scott, Zachary and Bradley Floeter, Kevin (Jenny) Dreifuerst, and Kyle Esser; and 3 great-grandchildren, Teegan Detjens, Lana and Dominic Scott. Turtle is also survived by 2 sisters, Karen (Allen) Young of Elkhart Lake, WI, and Bonnie (the late Robert) Senkowski of Reedsburg, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and sister-in-law, Gordon R. and Nancy Esser, and a brother-in-law, Robert Senkowski.
The Mass of Christian Burial for Darvin "Turtle" Essser will be Celebrated Wednesday at 11:00 A.M. at St. James Place, (North of St. James Church, Highway 73 in Neshkoro). Father Dale Grubba will be the Celebrant. Inurnment will be in the Spring in the Parish Cemetery.
Friends may call at St. James Place from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. Wednesday Only prior to the Mass.
