Rivers, Fred E.

Fred E. Rivers Sr., age 91, of Berlin, passed away peacefully on Thursday evening April 24, 2014 at the Agnesian Hospice Home of Hope of Fond du Lac.

He was born on January 3, 1923 in Redgranite the son of Allie and Olga (Tornow) Rivers.

Fred served his country proudly in the U.S. Army during WWII in Co. K the 309th Infantry, 78th Lightning Division, at D-day Omaha Beach, Battle of the Bulge, and was awarded the Purple Heart and four Bronze Stars.

He married Marion Klapper on February 2, 1943 at Saint Michael's Catholic Church of Berlin and she preceded him in death on June 8, 2012.

Fred was employed at the Berlin Chapman's Fabrication Division as a Steel Cutter up until his retirement.

He is a member of the All Saints Catholic Parish of Berlin.

Fred loved to vacation up north, getting together with his family, was an avid hunter in his younger years, and enjoyed fishing, playing cards, gardening and going to the casinos.

He was a very devoted and loving husband, father, grandpa, great grandpa and great- great grandpa and will be missed by all.

He is survived by his son, Frederick Rivers of Berlin, brother, Irv (Sharon) Rivers of Markesan, sisters, Mabel Burkwald of Wautoma, Gladys Nitzke of Poy Sippi and Francis Hodgins of Texas, grandson, Jamie Rivers, granddaughters, Sue (Randy) Jodarski and Karen Rivers (special friend Terry Eagan), great grandchildren, Nicholas, Krystle, Kristi, and great- great grandchildren, Ian, Lillian, Olivia, Lucas, and Mason.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother, Harry Rivers, son, Norbert Rivers and granddaughter, Faith Marie Rivers.

A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday April 30, 2014 at 11a.m. at the Wiecki-Skipchak Funeral Home of downtown Berlin with the Rev. Jerome Maksvytis officiating and burial with full Military Honors provided by the Berlin V.F.W. Honor Guard will follow in the Saint Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery of Berlin where he will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife Marion.

Relatives and friends may visit with the family and pay their respects to Fred on Wednesday morning only from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m. at the Funeral Home.
