Steiner, James F.

James F. Steiner, 85, Woodruff, formerly of Oshkosh, died Monday, August 19, 2013 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

He was born April 9, 1928 in South Byron, Wis., son of the late Herbert and Mary (Bird) Steiner.

James was a veteran, serving in the National Guard from 1950 until 1954, during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the American Legion in Woodruff.

James was the founder of Arrowhead Conveyor Company in Oshkosh and sold the company in 1979 when he retired and moved to Woodruff. He was a longtime board member of the YMCA in Oshkosh and was involved with several charities.

Among his favorite pastimes, he enjoyed boating and socializing with friends. James had a great love for all animals, especially dogs, and his favorite breed was German Shepherds.

Survivors include, three children, James "Rick" (Jane) Steiner, Oshkosh, Jerald (Fay) Steiner, Oshkosh and Linda (Ken) Korsch, Omro, Wis.; six grandchildren, Shawna (Kyle) Rooney, Joshua (Anna) Steiner, Anna (Aaron) Jelleberg, Jacob Steiner, Kelly (Zachary Wenzel) Korsch and Kira (Jeremiah Johnson) Korsch; seven great-grandchildren, Ian and Brennan Steiner, Adele Jelleberg, Madden and Declan Rooney, Adison Wenzel and Kai Korsch; his lifelong friend, Joyce Long, Minocqua; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Diane Langenegger; his second wife, Frances Ruby; two brothers, Paul and David Steiner; and one sister, Mary Lou Polzin.

In accordance with James wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral services. A celebration of life party will be held in Minocqua and also in Oshkosh, to be announced at a later date.

Memorials may be directed to the Vilas County Sheriff's Department K-9 Unit, 330 Court Street, Eagle River, WI 54521, to be used for vests and training for the dogs.
