Conger, John Daniel

John Daniel Conger, 43, of Milton, WI, died unexpectedly on Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013. He was born on April 1, 1970, in Iron Mountain, MI, to Dan Conger and Sandy Ebel. John graduated from Black Hawk High School in South Wayne in 1988. He attended Madison Area Technical College in Madison, WI, earning an associate's degree in criminal justice.

John was a dedicated family man who was active in every aspect of his children's lives. He was very gratified by his profession. He joined the Milton Police Department in May 1992. Over the course of his 21 year career, he served as a patrol officer, a field training officer, a patrol Sergeant, and Administrative Lieutenant. He was the first ever Milton Police Department graduate of Northwestern University's prestigious 10 week Staff and Command Police Leadership training course. John educated about the dangers of drunk driving, heroin use, internet safety and safe disposal of unused prescription medications in the Drug Prescription Drop Box. He was most proud of work he had been doing recently in regards to bullying.

He helped formulate the Milton Youth Coalition (MYC) and he coordinated the "lunch with a cop" program, where he promoted "living the Milton way" and being safe at school and in the community. Lastly he introduced the Safe Exchange program, which allowed the polices citation to be an exchange spot for online transactions. Lt. Conger was a dedicated public servant and a highly decorated officer, receiving 2 community service awards and 3 Commander's commendations during his career. He positively impacted the lives of all who knew him and helped make Milton a better, safer place for all.

John loved to travel, especially to Graceland since he was a very enthusiastic Elvis fan. He was a great cook and an avid sports fan, rooting for the Green Bay packers, the Milwaukee Brewers and the Wisconsin Badgers.

He enjoyed coaching youth sports in Milton. As a young boy, he was fascinated by airplanes and loved annually attending the EAA Air Show in Oshkosh. He was especially fond of the Warbirds and the Blue Angels.

He is survived by Kelly Conger (Olson), his wife of 14 years; two children, Kaitlyn and Aidan; his mother Sandy Ebel and Dan Conger (Marcy), both of Oshkosh, WI. John was a loving great nephew to Ethel Penzenstadler, son-in-law to Gerald and Gail Olson, brother-in-law to Amy Wallace (Olson) and uncle to Anna and Luke. He is survived as well by many cousins, dear friends, and his extended law enforcement brothers and sisters. John was preceded in death by his grandparents, Les and Shirley Conger, Rose Laatsch and his great-uncle John Penzenstadler.

Funeral services will be held at 7 PM on Friday, October 25, 2013 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Milton, with Rev. Richard Collier and Rev. Jerry Wendt officiating.
