Dr. John E. Kerrigan, 76, passed away on November 5, 2012 in Dallas, Texas.
Funeral services will be held at St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church located at 830 South Westhaven Drive, Oshkosh, WI 54904 at 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 17, 2012. The family will be receiving visitors at the church beginning at 11 a.m. The family will be hosting an Irish Wake from 2 to 6 p.m at the Hilton Garden Inn, 1355 West 20th Avenue, Oshkosh, WI 54902, all are invited to attend.
John Kerrigan, the son of Raymond and Eleanor Kerrigan, was born in La Crosse, Wisconsin on December 16, 1935. He attended Acquinas High School in La Crosse, WI, where he also married the love of his life, Patricia Maureen Ostrander, on June 21, 1958.
John had many passions in his life but his first priority was always his loving wife, Patricia, and their four children. He is survived by his sweet wife, Patricia Kerrigan; his daughter, Maureen Kerrigan and her husband Steve; his son Michael Kerrigan and his wife Kirsten; his daughter, Megan Yearout and her husband Tom; his son, Brian Kerrigan and Diana Hils, and his nine grandchildren, Maxine and Jack Wragan; Katie, David and Patrick Kerrigan; Kelsey, Nicholas, Zachary and Abby Yearout; and his sister Patricia McConaghy, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Geraldine and Glen Zehntner and brother-in-law Joseph Ostrander.
He is preceded in death by his father Raymond Kerrigan, his mother Eleanor Kerrigan, his brother Don Kerrigan, his sister Beverley Clement, his brother-in-law Donald McConaghy and sister-in-law Rose Ostrander.
John earned a Bachelor's degree in Liberal Arts from Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa; a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering and a Master's degree in Political Science from the University of Iowa; and a PhD in Political Science from the University of Colorado. He was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Humanities from the University of Manila in the Philippines and an Honorary Doctorate of Law from Loras College.
John Kerrigan spent the majority of his career as the Chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. He was also President of Loras College, his alma mater. Additionally, John served as: Vice President of Academic Affairs at the University of Houston; Dean of the College of Public Affairs and Community Service at the University of Nebraska-Omaha; Chairperson of the College of the Public Affairs and Community Service at the University of Oregon; and Assistant Director of the Bureau of Governmental Affairs at the University of Colorado.
John had a love for travel, particularly international travel and specifically in the Middle East. He visited over 30 countries.
