Roy L. Julius

Roy Julius, 66, Neenah, passed away peacefully from cancer caused by Agent Orange on Tuesday, November 5, 2013, at ManorCare, Appleton. He was born January 28, 1947, Neenah, son of Harvey and Myna (Schmidt) Julius. Roy married Patricia L. Pegel on September 30, 1972, at St. Therese Catholic Church, Appleton. He was an active member of the A.R.C. and participated in their annual bowl-a-thon, Disabled Citizens Inc., Advocacy Coalition of the Fox Valley, and the Transportation Committee with Valley Transit. Roy also worked over the years with Jill Gretzinger and the Easter Seals and John Meisner with Options for Independent Living. He was employed with the City of Neenah for over 30 years with the street department, and worked over 10 years for the Human Service Department of Winnebago County. Roy was a devout member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, Neenah and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

Above all though, Roy will be remembered for the fun times spent fishing with the family, going out on drives to watch for deer, and getting ice cream with the grandchildren. He was a family man, dad, and papa, who will be remembered for always having a Shih Tzu on his lap, enjoying a good game of cards, or going out to fish fries at the Appleton American Legion and the Eagles Club in Neenah on Friday nights. Roy also enjoyed camping at High Cliff, feeding the birds, spending time at the Neenah light house in Riverside Park and Appleton Yacht Club, and talking with Neenah High Alumni, especially those from the class of 1967. Roy also played varsity football for NHS and lettered.

Roy is survived by his wife, Patricia L. Julius; two daughters: Angela L. Julius, Neenah; and Amanda D. Julius, Appleton; two granddaughters: Alizabeth and Annabell Julius; two sisters: Sandy Koehn and Joyce Julius; numerous nieces and nephews.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents; mother- and father-in-law, Audree and Evan Pegel; sisters: Ruby, Helen, Mary Ellen, and Dorothy; brothers: Robert, Arthur, Donald, Richard, Gilbert, and Jerry.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 11, 2013, at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 620 Division St., Neenah, with Fr. Michael Ingold officiating. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Neenah. Visitation will be on Sunday at the Kessler Funeral Home, 304 S. Commercial St., Neenah, from 5:00 p.m. until a prayer service at 8:00 p.m., and will continue on Monday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass. Full military honors will be presented by members of the U.S. Air Force following the Mass. Roy's family would like to inform those attending the Mass of the handicap parking available in the church lot off of Washington Avenue. There is handicap access into the church there as well. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Roy's name.

Roy's family would like to thank Fox Valley Hematology and Oncology, especially Dr. Karen Gremminger for their professional care, Affinity Medical Group, especially the staff at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Network Health, Gold Cross Ambulance, and the Department of Veteran Affairs for all their help. A special thank you also to the staff at ManorCare of Appleton, and Dr. Jack Anderson, for opening your Hands and Heart to our family. Many thanks to our Parish Priest, Fr. Mike Ingold, Pastoral Associate, Joan Bartman, and Parish Nurse, Sheila Scanlan, for your kindness and compassion, as well as Fr. Bill Kuhr.
