Father Urban Carl Feucht, O.S.B Father Urban Feucht passed to God on Saturday, December 7, 2013, at Clare Bridge of Olympia, at age 86 after a long period of deteriorating ill health. Father Urban was born on April 16, 1927, in Lewiston, Idaho, to Anton Feucht and Rose Dahmen Feucht. He graduated from Saint Martin's High School in 1946 and then from Saint Martin's College (now University) in 1951. Father Urban professed first vows as a Benedictine monk of Saint Martin's Abbey in July of 1949 and solemn vows three year later in 1952. He completed a four year professional course in theology at Mount Angel Seminary, Oregon, in 1954 and was then ordained a priest. He pursued advance studies at Seattle University, the University of Washington and at Worcester Polytech, Worcester, MA. Father Urban served the Saint Martin's community in many ways during his 64 years as a Benedictine monk. Among others, he taught in Saint Martin's High School from 1954 until 1974 when the High School closed. He was also a residence counselor in the High School from 1964-1971. From 1972 to 1980 he served as treasurer of both Saint Martin's College and Saint Martin's Abbey. In 1993 he was named prior of the 819Abbey, a position he held until the spring of 1998. At different points in his life he served on the Saint Martin's College Board of Trustees and on the Saint Martin's Abbey Board of Directors. In 1999 he was named an outstanding alumnus of Saint Martin's College for Benedictine Service. Beginning in 1980 Father Urban's vocation took on a more pastoral focus. In 1980 and 1981 he was pastor of Queen of Angel Parish in Port Angeles, WA. From 1981 to 1993 and again from 1998 until 2008 (when he retired) he was the priest chaplain at Providence Saint Peter Hospital in Olympia. In his younger years Father Urban's avocation had been that of an active woodsman, clearing land, trimming and felling trees, and splitting firewood. As he got older this activity tapered off and ended in his retirement years when he was afflicted with progressive age related dementia. In addition to his monastic community, Father Urban's survivors include his sister, Teresa Wessels, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and a multitude of friends and former students. There will be a Vigil Service for Father Urban at 5:00 p.m., Sunday, December 15, 2013, and a Mass of Christian Burial at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 16, 2013, both in the Saint Martin's Abbey Church. Internment will follow in the Saint Martin's Abbey Cemetery. Arrangements are by Woodlawn Funeral Home, Lacey, WA.
