Aug. 21, 1923 - March 15, 2014 Lifelong Vacaville resident, Wallace L. Brazelton, Sr., passed away on March 15. For the greater part of his life, Wally lived and worked on his family farm located near Pleasants Valley and Gates Canyon roads. The same bedroom where he was born on August 21, 1923, was where he slept for many years. He graduated from Vacaville High School in 1941, as did his father in 1902, all his children and many of his grandchildren.
He raised cattle, cultivated apricot and peach orchards and was a Sunsweet prune grower. He was elected to the District 4 seat on the Solano County Board of Supervisors five times, serving consecutive four year terms from 1962 to 1982. Known for his storytelling abilities and quick wit, "Wally-isms" was the term used to describe the humorous barbs he hailed during Board meetings. His "Wally-ism" on bureaucracy was that "trying to make things work in government is like trying to sew a button on a custard pie." One of his main commitments while in office was the preservation of Solano County's prime agricultural lands, a legacy that is in evidence today. During his political tenure, Wally served on the County Supervisors' regional association and was a member of the Board of Directors of Fouts Springs Boys Camp.
He served in the
World War II
and held membership in the American Legion,
Veterans of Foreign Wars
and the Forty and Eight. He held membership with the local Moose Lodge since 1968. Other local service clubs to which he belonged over the years included the Vacaville
, Elks, Farm Bureau, Odd Fellows, and Chamber of Commerce. He was happiest when he was deer hunting with his close friends and his grandson, Kenneth Kerr. After suffering a debilitating stroke in May 2008, Wally moved to a care facility in Vacaville.
Wally was preceded in death by his parents, John McKnight Brazelton, Sr. ("Big Mac") and Helena Ethel White; his two brothers, John McKnight Brazelton, Jr. and Eugene Brazelton; as well as two of his grandchildren, Theresa Kerr and Briann Seal. He is survived by his daughters, Sandra Nelson (Douglas), Suzanne Jubenville (Jeffrey), Gloria Brown (Charles); his son, Wallace L. Brazelton, Jr.; nine grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren.
Services will be held on Saturday, March 22, 11 a.m., at Nadeau Family Funeral Home.
Arrangements entrusted to the care of Nadeau Family Funeral Home 455-7700.
