PITTSBURG - Charles V. Catlin, Jr., 85, passed away at 10:33 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, 2012, in Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion.
Charles started working at the Sepulveda Ambulatory Care Center in Sepulveda, Calif., and retired in 1987 as the Chief Fiscal Officer for the VA Medical Center in Marion.
Charles was a member and serving as an Elder of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Carterville and a veteran of the U. S. Navy during World War II.
Charles was born Dec. 30, 1926, in Grants Pass, Ore., to Charles Victor Catlin, Sr. and Mabel (Stanfield) Catlin Bechtold.
Charles was united in marriage with Virginia Lee Dyer Griffith on Feb. 15, 1952, in Ventura, Calif.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Virginia L. Catlin of Pittsburg; four sons and daughters-in-law, Sean and Patti Griffith of Poway, Calif., Mark Tracy and Judy Catlin of Bahama, N.C., Kim Michael Catlin of Tallahassee, Fla., and Timothy J. and Delena Catlin of Pittsburg; grandchildren, Lauren A. (Gabriel) Bruno of Benton, Zachary Ryan Catlin of Pittsburg, Kevin (Lee Ann) Catlin of Raleigh, N.C., Bryan (Heather) Catlin of Bahama, N.C., Chelsea Catlin of Bahama, N.C., Alison (Paul) Hunderdtmark of Temecula, Calif., Jennifer (Tracy) Oldenburg of Las Vegas, Nev., Stephanie Edge of Temecula, Calif., Rebecca (Jeremiah) Turner of San Diego, Rachel McArthur of Murrietta, Calif., Brooke Robinson of Cheyenne, Wyo., Robby Robinson of Temecula, Calif., and Jacob Robinson of Poway, Calif.; and several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter-in-law, Irene Griffith; half brother; and a half sister.
In accordance with Charles's wishes, he will be cremated.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012, in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 9490 Route 148 in Carterville, with Elder Charles Zito officiating. After the services, a time of fellowship and remembrance for family and friends will be from 2:30 to 6 p.m. Sunday in Pittsburg Community Center in Pittsburg.
Meredith-Waddell Funeral Home in Herrin is in charge of arrangements.
