TAMMS -- Paul "Pete" Dunning, 89, died at 1:10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012, in Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Marion.

He was born in Tamms on January 28, 1923, to Frank and Lena (Gossett) Dunning.
He served in the U.S. Army.
Paul was a member of Tamms Baptist Church, Mounds Senior Citizens Center and formerly, Tamms Senior Citizens, where he played in the kitchen band. He also belonged to the Moose Club in Des Plaines. He enjoyed gardening, mowing and working in his yard and dancing. Pete was always there to help people in the community, delivering meals, taking the elderly to doctor appointments or getting their groceries. He loved eating at the Kozy Korner in Olive Branch.
He is survived by his two sons, James (Sheryl) Dunning and John (Laura) Dunning both of Elk Grove Village; two daughters, Janet Dunning Myers (Jerry Swan) of Tamms and Jennifer Dunning Stone of Streator; four grandchildren, Ben and Zach Dunning, Kelton and Eva Myers; one sister, Irma Lee Jones of Franklin, Tenn.; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Milford and Tom Dunning; two sisters, Lillian Dunning Wright and Mary Dunning Daly; and three half-sisters, Ima, May and Wilma.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30, in Crain Funeral Home in Tamms, with the Rev. Larry Buckles officiating, followed by full military honors. Interment will be in Jonesboro Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29, at the funeral home.
