CARBONDALE - Ruth Tenney Kerwath, 81, died Tuesday Feb. 5, 2013, in Macomb, Mich.

Ruth was the daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. Charles D. Tenney of Carbondale.

She graduated from Carbondale High School in 1948.

Her role as wife of 60 years to the late Richard (Dick) Kerwath led her to countless duty locations with the Navy and with General Motors where she became an expert at making any location a home. Ruth raised six children supporting their interests with humor, artistry and practical advice. As a lifelong fiber and bead artist, Ruth was an active member of many national and international organizations, most recently, The Needlework and Textile Guild of Michigan and the Great Lakes Beadworkers Guild. She was also a lifelong member of the PEO Sisterhood. She gave generously of her time and talents.

Ruth is survived by six children, Mark, Chuck (Pauline), Karen (William) Lukianoff, Christi (Paul) Travis, Scott, and Robert (Amanda). She was a cherished grandmother and great-grandmother to eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; a loving sister of Helen Naumer; sister-in-law to Joann Cecil; and aunt of many nieces and nephews.

She quietly influenced more lives than she could ever know and is remembered for her sense of humor and sweet smile. Ruth will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Ruth was laid to rest beside her husband, Dick, Feb. 11, in Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township, Mich.
