Charles Dean Howell

Parowan, Utah

Charles Dean "Chuck" Howell passed away August 15, 2013 in Parowan, Utah. He was born May 3, 1932 in Minden, NE to Ruby Irene Johnson and Orville Harry Howell, the oldest of four children.

He graduated from Tarkio High School, MO and worked in his dad's auto shop.

He married Barbara Jones in December 1954. They had two daughters. They later divorced.

During the Korean War, he served with the Navy C.B.'s on Kwajalein as the head auto mechanic with several mechanics under him.

They moved to Gardena, CA where Chuck worked as a auto mechanic for 20 years. Then a college auto shop teacher urgently suggested Chuck go into teaching. A couple of months later, he decided to try it. Chuck then continued his education receiving his Associate Degree from El Camino College, Gardena and his Bachelors Degree from Cal State University, Long Beach.

Chuck married Edith Ann White in April 1974; she had a daughter. He continued his education and received his Masters and Ed.D from Nova University. For 16 years, he taught all phases of auto mechanics at Long Beach City College, CA.

They retired in June 1989 and moved to Parowan, Utah.

Chuck is preceded in death by his father, grandparents, brother-in-law Norton Rowe, all aunts, all uncles, a granddaughter and ex-wife.

He is survived by his mother Ruby (102), wife, daughters Vicki Ann (Fred) Gates, Lynn Renee Adams and step-daughter Sue Lynn (Fred) Trummel, sisters Shirley Rauch, Mary Lou Rowe, brother Paul Howell, four grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and lots of cousins.

Memorial services will be at the Grace Christian Church (875 W 200 S) in Parowan, Utah on Tuesday, August, 27, 2013 @ 2:00 pm under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary. Online condolences can be made at www.sumortuary.com.
