Douglas Ned Smith, age 74, peacefully passed away in the comfort of his home on September 13, 2013, in Hurricane, UT, with his wife in attendance. He was born on May 26, 1939, in Santaquin, UT, where he was raised by his parents, Ned and Florence Smith.
Douglas attended Payson High School, served his country in the Marine Corps from 1957- 1960, and graduated from Utah Technical College, now Salt Lake Community college in auto body repair and paint. He said that because of his love of cars and his chosen profession that he never had to work a day in his life. One of his legacies is a bevy of beautifully restored custom cars and street rods for his satisfied customers. He loved camping and the outdoors, his children, his dog, fishing, cats, skiing, and golf. He was very social and had many friends in many places. His generosity and helpful nature was never ending.
He is survived by his; wife, Darlene, of 31 years; son, Douglas Wade Smith; daughter, Andrea (Doug) Hansen; granddaughter, Keri April smith and her two children Kiera and Daxton; 2 granddaughters, Rian Hansen, age 7, and Avery Hansen 23 months, and a grandson, Gaven Hansen, age 5; a brother, Bert, and 2 sisters, Nina and Karen. He had a special place in his heart for other family members, Marti Schmidt, Lori Nelson, Martin Thompson and other great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother and father and a cherished older brother, Frank.
At Douglas's request a celebration of his life will be held at a later date at Odell Lake in Oregon. A special thanks goes to Zions Way Hospice and their caring staff especially Marshall, Shannon, Joni, Sam, Kathy M, Jason, Jim D., and Victor. as well as special neighbors and other dear friends who helped with his care.
