On April 15, 2014, Eugene "Gene" Stephen Carney passed away peacefully at his home, at Beehive Cottages Senior Living, St. George, Utah. He was a loving, devoted husband to Marilyn Ruth Evans and loving father to Cathy Carney Peters of Chantilly, VA and Martha Carney Driscoll of Ormond Beach, FL; and by marriage to Laura Evans Lassen of Kernville, CA and Mark Evans of Torrance, CA. Gene was one of seven children born in Elgin, Illinois to Francis Timothy Carney and Edith Josephine Wennberg. Gene served in the US Navy as a Radioman on the USS Frontier during the Korean War and was awarded the National Defense Medal, the United Nations Service Medal and the Korean Campaign Medal. Gene retired after more than thirty years as an accountant with Southern California Edison Power, and had enjoyed more than twenty-five years in retirement. He served many years as a volunteer with Dixie Care & Share, assisting local families in need. He also participated for many years in the Huntsman World Senior Games, playing as a member of a winning softball team; was an active outdoorsman and sportsman and loved tennis, baseball, bicycling, running and playing horseshoes.
