Herold LaMar "Huck" Gregory

Salt Lake City, UT

Herold LaMar "Huck" Gregory passed away 18 June 2014, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born 9 November 1923 in Farmington, Utah, to Elijah Binam and Julia Ellen Tree Gregory. Married his college sweetheart, Mary Ethel Eccles, on 15 August 1951 in the Salt Lake Temple. Educated at Farmington Elementary, Davis High School and University of Utah, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree (honors) in radio speech with a minor in music and journalism. Graduate studies in business administration. Served three years in the Army of the United States at the height of World War II in France, Germany and Austria (1942-1945). Served two and a half years as a missionary (1949-1951) in the LDS East German Mission with headquarters in West Berlin. Following two and a half years' employment at the Davis County Bank in Farmington, he returned to Berlin as East German Mission president with his wife, daughter Vicki and yet unborn son Walter for another four years (1953-1957). Highlight of his LDS Church service was 24 years with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir (singing member for seven years and assistant to choir president for 17 years). Executive Director of the Utah Symphony for 29 years (1957-1986) and Utah Symphony Board secretary for a total of 42 years. Executive Director of O.C. Tanner Gift of Music for 19 years (1984-2003). Member of Utah Symphony Chorus for 17 years. From 1986 to 2014 he was employed as assistant to founder and chairman, Jon M. Hunstman Sr., at Huntsman International LLC. Huck is remembered as a proud father, loving husband, devoted Latter-day Saint, writer, humorist, singer, loyal American and good neighbor. Preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Ethel, parents, three brothers - Fred (Thora), Rulon (Josephine), LeGrande "Dan" (Barbara); two sisters - Fern (Milton) Hess and Helen Ruth (died at age four). He is survived by his sister Dorothy (Robert H.M.) Killpack; daughters Vicki (Ian) McGregor and Suellen (Brad) Winegar; son Walter Gregory; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services July 1, 2014, 11:30 a.m., Monument Park Chapel, 2795 E. Crestview Drive, Salt Lake City. Visitation at chapel Monday, June 30, 6-8 p.m. and 10-11:00 a.m. prior to Tuesday service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the Perpetual Education Fund of the LDS Church. Interment at Farmington City Cemetery.
