Howard Walker Johnston

St. George, UT

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Howard Walker Johnston of St. George, Utah, announce his passing at the age of 89, on the morning of January 26, 2014, at Dixie Regional Medical Center surrounded by his loving wife and family.

Howard was born April 17, 1924, in Hilo, Hawaii to George Philip Johnston and Jean Helen Tough Johnston of Scotland. He lived his early years in Hawaii, graduating from Hilo High School in April 1942. After the death of his father, he moved his mother and young sister Marlene to Toronto, Canada to be with his mother's family. Howard joined the Army Air Force in 1943. He served in WWII as a B-17 tail gunner. He flew in several missions, combat and humanitarian. He was very proud of his service to his country. Howard's passion was playing golf. He was a very soft spoken, kind and generous man. Howard worked for over 30 years in the oil and gas industry as a manager of accounting and finance.

Howard met Marion Ora Anderson at Woodbury Business College in Los Angeles. They were married on July 9, 1948, in Huntington Park, California. They moved to Long Beach, California in 1952. They have three children, Ronald, Kenneth, and Carol.

Howard leaves behind his sweet wife, Marion (St. George, UT), his only sibling Marlene Pauley (Downey, CA), sons Howard Ronald (Shelly) of Saratoga Springs, UT, Kenneth Alan (Kathy) of Murrieta, CA, and daughter Carol Connie Lamb (Brian) of Mt. Carmel, UT, nine grandchildren -and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 30, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. at the LDS Church on 259 N. Mall Drive, St. George, Utah. A viewing will be held prior to the service from 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.. Interment will take place at the Tonaquint Cemetery with Military Honors.
