Hyrum Manfred Smith, husband father, grandfather, uncle, teacher mentor and friend was beloved by all. Hyrum died of natural cuases on November 11, 2013 in St George, UT. Hyrum was born in Salt Lake City UT on April 11, 1930 to Joseph Baily Smith and Martha Frieda Heidel Smith. He served in the Army during the Korean War. He taught diesel mechanics at Salt Lake Community College for 23 years. And he received a commendation from the National Guard for teaching special classes to servicemen to repair diesel vehicles that had sat idle for many years. Lots of people have called upon "Uncle Hyrum" for advice. He had a great love for music and was a soloist with the Tabernacle Choir for 12 years. He was one of 30 members of the Choir who sang for the 1973 presidential inauguration. He is survived by his wife Alina Putnam Smith; children Stanlee (Patti) Smith, and Deb (Tom) Hill; 11 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his siblings Cumorah, Marian, Esther, Ralph and Raymond; and grandchildren Maggie, Cody and Todd. The funeral will be held on Saturday November 16 at Deseret Mortuary (700 S 30 E) at 1:30 with a viewing from 12 noon to 1:00. Internment will be at the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
