Joan Murphy Obituary

MURPHY, Joan "Jonnie" - Peacefully at home on May 12, 2009 in her 87th year, surrounded by her loving family. A loving wife and mother for 63 years, Jonnie will be missed by her husband Len, her sons Terry (Wendi), Frank (Christine), Ed, Robert, and daughter Joanne, and granddaughters Jennifer, Lindsey, Kari and grandsons Kyle and Sean. Jonnie served as a nurse during WWII in her native Australia. She met Len, a Chief Radio Officer in the Canadian Merchant Marine, on a blind date in Melbourne in 1944. They married in Wellington, NZ on February 9, 1946. Jonnie arrived in Canada on May 9, 1946 to start a new life in this land half a world away. Jonnie will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Memorial Reception will be held at THE SIMPLE ALTERNATIVE FUNERAL CENTRES (275 Lesmill Road, North York, 416-441-1580) on Friday, May 15, 2009 from 2-4 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at Blessed John XXIII Roman Catholic Church (150 Gateway Boulevard) in Don Mills on Saturday, May 16, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. Cremation has taken place. Memorial donations to a children's charity of your choice would be appreciated.

Jonnie Murphy will never be forgotten. She left a family and friends that will always keep her in their thoughts and heart. We will light a candle at our church in memory of her.
