ROOSEN-RUNGE, Prof. Peter H. - June 6, 1938 to October 21, 2013 Died peacefully in Toronto after a long illness. Cherished husband to Cherilyn in their 52nd year of marriage. Father of Lisa and Anna. Grandpa to Charlotte, Griffin and Vivienne Leong. Brother of Kord, Ursula and Anne (Waterman) of Whidbey Island, Washington, USA. Peter was born in Rhode Island, USA. His parents moved the family to Utica, Indiana before settling in Seattle, Washington. Peter graduated from Roosevelt High School, Seattle. He attended Reed College and the University of Washington for his undergraduate studies and completed his PhD in Communication Sciences at the University of Michigan in 1967. Peter, Cheri and Lisa moved to Toronto in 1968 where Anna was born. An enthusiastic scholar whose career spanned many changes in technology, Peter taught for 40 years at York University in what is now the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science department. Peter was the chair of the Computer Science department from 1976 to 1980. He was the Associate Director for Research in the CulTech Collaborative Research Centre. He was a board member of the Glenn Gould Foundation from 2004 to 2008. Peter's interrelated interests in mathematics, politics, philosophy, archaeology, social justice, music, computer science and technology meant he was never without conversation or strong opinions with his colleagues, family and friends.
