RUBY ISOBEL (FERGUSON) HARPUR

Obituary
The Guest Book is expired.

RUBY ISOBEL HARPUR (née FERGUSON) Born in Cobourg in 1918, died peacefully in Barrie on August 19, 2013. Predeceased by her devoted husband Geoffrey Adams Harpur (2002). Ruby is survived by her daughter Maureen Marinelli (Dante, died 1997), her son Michael (Carol) and grandchildren Matthew and Katryn. Ruby was a highly- honoured alumna of Lindsay Collegiate and the University of Toronto. She taught high school French and English before marrying Geoff, having Maureen and Michael and becoming the best wife and mother her family can imagine. Ruby reserved time for reading and friends. With Geoff, she enjoyed an active social life, theatre, travel and vacations both at Pleasant Point when her family was young and later in Temagami. Ruby and Geoff lived for many years in North Toronto before moving to Niagara Falls, Ontario and following Geoff's retirement, to Niagara-on-the-Lake near her daughter. In 2007, five years after Geoff's death, Ruby moved to Barrie near her son and was tenderly cared for at, initially, Whispering Pines Retirement Home and, latterly, Victoria Village Manor. As she grew older, Ruby regularly let her children know that growing up in Lindsay with her sister Virna and brothers Don and Eric had been an exceptionally happy childhood and that the life she chose of marriage and parenting were altogether fulfilling. Maureen and Michael will admit to presenting the odd parenting challenge and will confirm that Ruby took them all in stride. As to marriage, Geoff seemed to be as pleased with his life as a man can be. To all of us, she combined intelligence, good humour and a generous, gentle heart. She will be greatly missed. A service in celebration of Ruby's life will be held at the Mackey Funeral Home in Lindsay, Ontario at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 23, 2013 with a visitation commencing that morning at 10:00 a.m. and a reception to follow at the Lindsay Golf Club. In lieu of flowers, donations to the charity of one's choice are greatly appreciated.
