WWII Veteran

Passed away peacefully at Trillium Health Partners, surrounded by family, on Monday, June 27, 2016 in his 92nd year. Predeceased by his first wife Jane (nee Saliba). Survived by his wife Lily (nee Cascone). Loving Dad of Mary Diamond (Peter), Lucy Sapiano, Henry (Grace), Josephine Morrison (Wayne) and John (Ida). Proud Nannu of Amy (Ben), Jonathan (Paula), Andrea (Andrew), Rachel (Patrick), Jenna, Andrew (Carley), Matthew, Christina, Alyssa, Joshua, Kaitlyn and will be greatly missed by his two great-grandchildren Katie and Lucy. Fondly remembered by his extended family and friends in Malta and Canada. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the doctors, nurses, staff and volunteers at Amica Erin Mills, Tyndall Long Term Care Home and Trillium Health Partners, Mississauga. John served in WWII for the British forces and was awarded the George Cross for his service. He came to Canada in 1952 and was very proud to be Canadian and worked for Smith Transport (CP Transport) for over 40 years before he retired. Friends may call at the Turner & Porter "Neweduk-Erin Mills" Chapel, 1981 Dundas St. W., Mississauga (just east of Erin Mills Pkwy.) on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Ignatius Loyola, 2300 Burnhamthorpe Rd., Mississauga, on Thursday, June 30, 2016 at 1 p.m. Interment Assumption Catholic Cemetery. For those who wish, donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family. Online condolences may be made through www.turnerporter.ca
