"Strive to be remembered as that teacher that constantly aimed for the exemplary, that never settled for the mediocre and that invariably taught with limitless passion and vigor. By having accomplished this, you will most certainly have made this world a far far better place for a great number of our young people." Robert John Meehan...That describes Mr Selin' teaching career, he was also a caring friend, always had a hug for me, and I will truly miss him.My heartfelt sympathy to his family.

Growing up, my mother used to tell us kids about a bright spot in her childhood, her cousin Alan. You went on to inspire so many, and it started in childhood. Thanks so much for all the encouragement along the way. Ciao.

Dear Eleanor,
I am so sorry for you loss, for all our loss. Alan was a teacher like no other with so much heart, intelligence and curiosity, his enthusiasm was contagious.
High School was a tough time for me, I often felt invisible. Mr. Selin saw me and appreciated who I was. Years later he remembered all kinds of stories about me. He was a beautiful, generous soul, a gift to us all. Hugs all around.

Dear Eleanor, Heather, Shannon and Richard, just wanted to let you know that we were thinking of Alan and all of you although we could not attend the memorial service on Saturday. Alan was a special man who held a place in my Mother Georgina's heart. I hope that they are having a visit now in that better world we call heaven. A card from all of the Benwell family should be arriving via "snail mail" soon. All the best.

My thoughts & prayers go out to the Selin family at this very sad time. Growing up in Biggar afforded me a wonderful childhood, a close knit community and many teachers that I felt helped to shape my life. Alan B. Selin was probably the one that I admired most....Alan B, as we fondly called him, was strict but not with any malice at all. He knew all of us, had great hopes for our futures and we knew that we had to work hard in his class. His passion for history wasn't the only thing he instilled in all of us. He wanted us to be good human beings and he was that example. I imagine there are good teachers in Biggar still, but it won't be the same without Alan B Selin. They just don't make them like that anymore.

Words can not always express the feelings we wish them to. May you find comfort in the prayers and messages so many are sending. I loved visiting with you and Alan at the many events you both supported even when you were in Saskatoon. He alwys made me laugh when we visited and we had many conversations about hisory tir with some trivia I would have memorized just for when I saw him. Find comfort in the inspiration and the difference he has made in this world.

So sad to hear of the passing of a great man. His smile lit up the hallways of BCHS; he was such a positive influence to many, many students! Mr. Selin always made time to chat with people. He never forgot a face nor any personal details about his students no matter how much time had passed. I, along with countless others, will never forget Mr.Selin and his beautifully genuine personality. He adored his wife Eleanor and his children. We are better people for knowing him.

What can be said about Mr. Alan Selin that hasn't already been said except heaven has a special angel and what wonderful interesting and entertaining story's he is going to tell. Sorry I cannot attend Alan's funeral as I am scheduled to be out of town this weekend. I just want you to know that he was a wonderful influence on myself and my brother Fred. We always enjoyed Alan's humor and appreciated that he pushed up to be better students and in fact, better people. He made a difference in our world!

Dear Eleanor and family,
Our deepest sympathy to you and your family on Alan's passing. It has been our pleasure to count you as friends since arriving in Biggar in 1968. Like he did with countless other young teachers, he took me under his wing and helped me through those first couple of years.
For a teacher to be as revered and respected as was Alan by parents, students and colleagues is rare. But to know him and count him as a great friend is special indeed. Sincerely, Morris and Pat Smith, Lloydminster, AB.
