BROWN, Edgar "Eddie" Linton
Edgar "Eddie" Linton Brown passed away on Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at the age of 78 at St. Paul's Hospital after a long battle with COPD and lung cancer. Eddie was predeceased by his parents Edgar and Mary Brown; grandson James Brown; aunts, uncles, cousins and many beloved pets. Left to mourn are his wife Virginia "Ginny"; his children Edgar (Tracy), Bonnie (Drew), Kathy (Merv), James (Holly); stepchildren Mark (Maureen) and Gale (Andy); 16 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; his brother Jack; numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, in-laws, friends and Miss Kitty. Eddie was born March 24, 1934 in Saskatoon to parents Edgar and Mary Brown. The family moved to England in 1937 and then back to Saskatoon in 1947 where Eddie remained his whole life. He had a full childhood of siblings, stories, school and friends and graduated from Tech in 1951. On February 14, 1979 Eddie married Ginny. Eddie was Provincial Secretary, Provincial Chairperson, Saskatoon Secretary and Chairperson of St. John Ambulance. He was elevated to Knighthood and had a Honorary lifetime membership. He received the Canada 125 award for Outstanding Citizen. Eddie loved his career with the Saskatoon Fire Department and retired as a Captain in 1988 after 35 years. He also gave countless volunteer hours to St. John Ambulance, Retired Firefighters, The Anglican Church, The New Democratic Party, The Credit Union and The Co-operative. Eddie had a passion for vehicles, cars, boats, electronics, computers, house building and renovations, as well as raising dogs, wood working and camping. He took great pride in building one of the first solar efficient homes in Saskatchewan earning a feature in Harrowsmith magazine. Eddie loved socializing and singing, and had the amazing ability of making everyone around him feel comfortable. The family wishes to thank all staff on "5A" at St. Paul's Hospital and the Palliative care team for their special care of Eddie. A Memorial Service for Eddie will be held Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Funeral Home (east on 8th Street, first right past Briargate Road).
