After a brief but courageous battle with cancer, Larry passed away at Royal University Hospital with his family by his side. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 53 years, Rosemarie; daughter, Lori (Ben); son, David (Jennifer); granddaughter, Tessa; as well as his eight siblings and their families. All who knew Larry will remember how he loved to laugh, his enormous zest for life, his charming character and his great love for his family. As a young man, he was an amateur boxer and a Journeyman carpenter. He built his family five brand new homes over the years. He loved to dance; he loved to work; to garden; to tinker. A Saskatoon Firefighter for 30 years, Larry loved his job. He retired as Captain in 1997. Then he and Rosemarie hit the road, driving their motor home south until their toes found the sand. Larry was a patient father and grandfather, a loyal friend, an uncle, a son and a soul mate. He leaves a legacy of his careful work in the homes of his kids as he was always willing to lend a hand. He was conventionally unconventional. The family would like to express a special thanks to the staff at RUH, their understanding and kindness provided our family with a great sense of comfort. A Liturgy of the Word service celebrating his Life's Accomplishments will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 19th, 2013 at The Cathedral of the Holy Family (123 Nelson Road) A family committal of his remains will be held at a later date. Memorial Donations may be made out to the Canadian Mesothelioma Foundation (4302 - 50 Yorkville Ave, Toronto, ON M4W 0A3). Arrangements in care of John Schachtel - MOURNING GLORY FUNERAL SERVICES (306-978-5200)
