Benedict F. (Ben) Janssen Jr. of Dalton died Thursday evening at his sister's home in Clarks Summit surrounded by his family.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Benedict F. Sr. and Mildred Schirg Janssen. He was a 1959 graduate of Lackawanna Trail High School and a Navy veteran, serving on the USS Henderson and earning the rank of second class petty officer.

He was a member of the Electricians Union Local 81 IBEW, Our Lady of the Abingtons Church, the Tauras Club, Factoryville Sportsman's Club and VFW Post 7069, Clarks Summit. Prior to retirement, he worked for Everon Electrical for almost 40 years and later at Penn Security Bank and Procter & Gamble.

Ben was an avid NASCAR fan, going to many races with friends R.J., Danny, Tommy, Larry, Steve and Ginny. Mike Wallace cared for Ben so much that he lettered "Get Well Benny" on his car. He spent every morning at the Sunrise Café spending time with his buddies, Pepper, Bob, Butch and Carl.

The family would like to thank the Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dr. Kishori Veerabhadrappa and her nurse Nadine at the NROC, the Boston Women's Cancer Institute and Dr. Lebenthal for their compassion and dedication to Ben.

Surviving are his companion of 34 years, Lucy Ziman, LaPlume; a sister, Barbara Kile, Clarks Summit; a nephew, David Lynch and wife, Lisa, Roaring Brook Twp.; a niece, Krista Evangelista and husband, John, Blakely; two great-nieces, Alexa and Alyssa.

A memorial Mass will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. from Our Lady of the Abingtons Church, 700 W. Main St., Dalton. Interment will follow with military honors at St. Mary's Cemetery.

Friends may call Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. at the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit, Pa.
