Edward Robert Ruppel, 83, of Jermyn, passed away from this earth at his home on Monday morning.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the son of the late Henry and Anna Zuleeg Ruppel. He was a former resident of Kings Park, Long Island, N.Y., and resided in the area for the past 27 years. He was a graduate of Chelsea Vocational High School, New York City, served in the New York Army National Guard from 1947 to 1949 and later served in the Navy during the Korean War.

He retired from Grumman Aerospace in East Benton, where he was employed as a maintenance supervisor. He was a member of the East Benton United Methodist Church and was a longtime member of the Jephtha Masonic Lodge 494, F&AM, Huntington, N.Y.

Ed enjoyed woodworking and baking, and was a jack of all trades, mastering most.

A special thank you is extended to Home Instead and the VA Hospital for their support in caring for Ed in his final days.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, the former Marion Beutel; four children, Linda Frisvold and husband, Howard, Tunkhannock, Pa.; Robert Ruppel, Van Etten, N.Y.; Arline Prechtl and husband, Ed, Miller Place, N.Y.; and Joanne Walker and husband, Steve, British Columbia, Canada; nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Evelyn Weber, Toms River, N.J.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Henry Ruppel; and three sisters, Catherine Sweeney, Anna Lovett and Estelle Stidd.

The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. from the Shifler-Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 18 Airport Road, Clifford, with Mark Obrzut, pastoral leader of the East Benton United Methodist Church, officiating. Cremation will follow. Friends may call Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, 1111 East End Boulevard, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18711.
