Florence Gillespie Brown, 94, a resident of Dunmore, died Wednesday morning at Moses Taylor Hospital, Scranton. She was the widow of Everett Rittenhouse Brown, who died Feb. 22, 1993.

Born in the Providence section of Scranton, daughter of the late Roy and Louise Boyer Strohecker Gillespie, she was a member of Dunmore Presbyterian Church, where she had served on the board of deacons, as a member of the Women's Association and the Adult Fellowship Class and as a former church school teacher.
She was a graduate of Dunmore High School, Keystone College, Penn State University, and she attended the University of Scranton Dexter Hanley College, Marywood University and Penn State Worthington Scranton Campus, Dunmore.
She was a retired employee of Pennsylvania Power and Light Co. Distribution and Transmission Department. She was an adult program director of the former Scranton Young Women's Christian Association. She had been an active member of the community, serving on the board of directors of the Friends of the Everhart Museum, the Lackawanna Audubon Society and the Century Club, Scranton. She had been active in Girl Scouting, hosteling and YWCA work. For many years, she presented slide talks to organizations on ecology, the architecture of Scranton and travels.
She was a member of American Association of University Women and the P.E.O. Sisterhood, Chapter CA, Clarks Summit.
She is survived by her good friend, Pooh; stepchildren, Robert and Phyllis Cramer and Ward and Kenn Brown. Flo was also preceded in death by a sister, Jean Gillespie Dale, Santa Paula, Calif.
A graveside service will be held in Dunmore Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Brian Arthur Strauch Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, 602 Birch St., Scranton, PA 18505. Cremation took place at the Strauch Cremation Center and Crematory, Lehigh Twp.
