George F. Brick, 85, of Factoryville, died Friday morning at Tyler Memorial Hospital, Tunkhannock, after an illness. He and his wife, the former Jean Gallagher, celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary Nov. 24.

Born Dec. 21, 1928, in Upper Darby, son of the late John George and Victoria Carlson Brick, George started his career in marketing in 1948 managing Woolworth's stores in several states. George then purchased his first store in Lawsville in 1957. While living in Lawsville, George was an active member of the Snake Creek Fire Company and a member of the Montrose Area School Board. George and his family moved to Factoryville eight years later and bought the College Market. George devoted time to the Factoryville Methodist Church, Factoryville Civic Club and Lackawanna Trail Booster Club. In 1970, George founded Bricks Market, Tunkhannock. During the past 40 years George was active in the Tunkhannock United Methodist Church and served as a director of United Methodist Homes, Tyler Memorial Hospital, Affiliated Foods and Associated Wholesalers Inc. He was a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International and received a service award from the Tyler Hospital Foundation.

Since then, he and his wife "Brown Eyes" had enjoyed traveling, summers in Clayton, N.Y., and most importantly spending time with family and friends. George participated in and was a great supporter of Tyler Cardiac Rehab.

George?s family would like to thank Dr. Cheryle Stone and her staff, Tyler Memorial Hospital, and the staff of Golden Living Center. Special thanks to Jane Richards and Tanya Lewis for their love and care.

He is also survived by his three daughters, Lynn Reynolds and husband, Paul, Factoryville; Nancy Burdick and husband, Don, Union Dale; and Carol Weisenfluh and husband, Kevin, Factoryville; a sister, Evelyn Stuart, Strathmere, N.J.; grandchildren, Michele Strickland, Martin Reynolds, Aaron Slick, Frostina Roy, Ben Burdick, Haley and Owen Weisenfluh; great-grandchildren, Maura and Paige Strickland; Gabriel and Finnegan Roy; several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a sister, Mary Nye; and a brother, John C. Brick.

The funeral will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Tunkhannock United Methodist Church. The Rev. Peter Gerschwindner will officiate, assisted by Pastor Sue Flicker, a niece; and Dr. Paul Nye, a nephew. Special music will be provided by nephew Stephen Nye. Interment, Evergreen Woodlawn Cemetery, Factoryville.

Friends may call Monday, 3 to 6 p.m., at the Harding-Litwin Funeral Home, 123 W. Tioga St., Tunkhannock.
