George Thomas Parker, 68, a lifelong resident of Scranton, died Monday at home after a lengthy illness.

Born in Scranton, son of the late Mamie Parker Austin, he was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School. He served during the Vietnam War with the Army. He was a member of the VFW Post 3451, the Nativity Social Club, the 606 Club and the 20th Ward Social and Athletic Club. Before retirement, he had been employed by Tobyhanna Army Depot for 33 years.

He enjoyed bowling and golfing, and was an avid Washington Redskins fan. He loved his cats, Oreo and Shadow.

Surviving are his companion, Margie Kerrigan, Scranton; two sons, George Thomas Parker Jr., Georgia; and Corey White, Scranton; a granddaughter, Annika Parker, Georgia; six sisters, Sherri Burns, Scranton; Laurie Moore, Florida; Michele Moore, Maryland; Denise Harris, Lynette Moore and Melissa Moore, all of Wilkes-Barre; six brothers, Earl Moore, Allentown; Stacy Moore, Scranton; Travis Moore, Peter Moore, Jeff Moore and Keith Moore, all of Wilkes-Barre; an aunt, Carol Parker, Old Forge; a cousin, Darryl Crawford, Scranton; nieces, nephews and additional cousins.

He was also preceded in death by an uncle, Thomas Parker; and his grandmother, Cleo Franklin.

A blessing service will be held on Friday at 4 p.m. at the Miller Bean Funeral Home Inc., 436 Cedar Ave., Scranton. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

Friends may call on Friday from 4:30 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Military honors will be conducted at 8.
