Hendrick Marr, 85, of Harford, died Friday at Golden Living Center, Tunkhannock. In July 1954, he married his loving wife, Nancy James Marr. They celebrated 59 years of marriage in July.

Born Sept. 6, 1928, in Hunlock Creek, he was the son of the late Milton and Musetta Cease Marr. He was a graduate of Harter High School in 1946. He also graduated from Wilkes College in 1954 and began teaching in the Laketon School for six months until he was drafted into the Army in 1955. He served as a chaplain's assistant until his discharge in April 1957.
He then began his career at Mountain View School in Kingsley in 1957 as a music teacher. He earned his master's degree from Penn State University in 1968 and retired in 1993. He also taught French and English, when needed.
He was a member of First Congregational UCC, Harford, where he was the former organist and choir director. Additionally, he served as president of the Pennsylvania Association of State Retirees for six years and was a member of the board of the Harford Fair, where he was the superintendent of gates and food stands.
Also surviving are daughters and sons-in-law, Rebecca and Gary Seidel, Bloomsburg; Lisa and Eugene Hahn, Harford; granddaughter, Leann Seidel; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Marlyn Marr; sister, Lois Walk; brother-in-law, William Schroyer; sister-in-law and husband, Peg and Bob Swank; nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was also preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Olin and Helen Marr; sister, Virginia Schroyer; and sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Velton Bean.
Services will be Saturday ay 11 a.m. at the First Congregational UCC, Harford.
Visitation will be Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Bartron-Myer Funeral Home Inc., 382 Church St., Montrose, and one hour before services on Saturday at the church.
