Irene Marhevka Jalkosky, Lake Ariel, died Monday morning at the Regional Hospital of Scranton after an illness. She was the widow of Adam S. Jalkosky, who died in 1996. They had been married for 50 years.

Born in Dunmore, daughter of the late John and Anna Hudak Marhevka, she was a graduate of the Lake Consolidated School, Lake Ariel. She was a member of the St Thomas More — St Mary's Parish Community. She and her husband had run a dairy farm in Lake Ariel for many years.
Irene was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother who always put her family first. She enjoyed garage sales and collecting, doing jigsaw puzzles and taking care of her dogs. She was known by most for her never-ending energy level and will be fondly remembered and missed by all who knew her.
Surviving are a daughter, Linda Reed and her husband, Jerry, Lake Ariel; a sister, Josephine Valenti, Old Forge; brothers, Andrew and his wife, Joan, Lake Ariel; Cyril, Florida; and Joseph and his wife, Ruth, Tennessee; a grandson, Jonathan, a student at Penn State University; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by sisters, Mary Ostromecki and Ann Haidler.
Anyone attending the funeral is invited to go directly to the church.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. in St Thomas More Church, 105 Gravity Road, Lake Ariel. Interment, All Saints Cemetery, Hollisterville.
