Jeffrey Carl Kochis, 33, Jefferson Township, died Monday while fishing on Lake Wallenpaupack.

He was the son of Carl and Mary Beth Keyasko Kochis of Jefferson Heights. Jeff was a member of St. Eulalia's Church in Elmhurst and had attended North Pocono schools and was a graduate of Bishop O'Hara Class of 1997. He attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania and Penn State University, where he was nearing completion of his degree in Natural Sciences. Jeff was a three time All Scholastic Selection while a member of the Bishop O'Hara Golf Team. He was also a Junior Member of the Elmhurst Country Club, where he was crowned Junior Club Golf Champion in 1996 and 1997. He was a Certified Orvis Fly-fishing Guide while in Alaska for two seasons and in New York State for several seasons.

Jeff's passion for life was being outdoors among nature and wildlife. He shared his love of hunting, fishing and golfing with his dad and many close friends. An avid New York Yankees fan, he treasured the memories of the time spent in the Yankees clubhouse and dugout with players and especially with his boyhood idol, Don Mattingly.

Also surviving are a sister, Kristen Kochis, Scranton; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends.

He was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Joseph and Agnes Keyasko; and paternal grandparents, George and Helen Kochis.

A funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. in St. Eulalia's Church in Elmhurst. Friends may call at the church Thursday from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Sierra Club by contacting them at 415-977-5653 or to the Ledgedale Fire Dept., 27 Sledginski Road, Lake Ariel, PA 18436. These funds will be distributed among the Rescue Squads of Ledgedale, Tafton and Lakeville.
