Joseph J. Gorgol, 91, of Scranton, died Thursday afternoon at Geisinger Community Medical Center as the result of an accident. He and his wife, the former Cecelia Janowski, celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary in May.

Born in Scranton, son of the late Stanley and Mary Rosiak Gorgol, he was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School. An Army Air Force veteran of World War II, he was a technical sergeant with 344 Fighter Group of the Air Force.
He was a life member of the Rabiega-Gorgol VFW Post, the Dante Club and St. Stanislaus Polish National Catholic Cathedral, where he was an avid churchgoer. Before retiring, he was owner of Trama & Gorgol Service Station, Brook Street and Cedar Avenue.
Joe was a very kind and caring person who would do anything for anyone. He was a pleasant person who you would enjoy being in his company. He and a group of men would meet every morning for a cup of coffee and fellowship.
Also surviving are a son, Richard Gorgol and wife, Patricia, Scranton; three grandchildren, Steven Gorgol, Long Beach, Calif.; Evonne Gorgol, Old Forge; and Joseph R. Gorgol, Scranton; nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Robert Gorgol; and a sister, Eleanor Gorgol Nolan.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. from the Leon S. Gorgol Funeral Home, 1131 Pittston Ave., with Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Stanislaus Polish National Catholic Cathedral. Interment, parish cemetery.
