Joseph P. Matone, 74, of Throop, died Saturday at Geisinger Community Medical Center. He and his wife, the former Mary Latniak, celebrated 49 years of marriage in February.

Born June 1, 1940, son of the late Joseph Sr. and Mary Jaconski Matone, he was a graduate of Throop High School and Penn State Extension of Scranton. He was a Navy veteran and retired from PennDOT after 39 years of employment. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament of St. Anthony's Church in Throop. He was also a member of Elmhurst Country Club.

Also surviving a daughter, Sherry Ann; a son, Michael Matone and wife, Kelly; grandsons, Logan Michael and Porter Robert, whom he adored; sisters-in-law, Jean Drasba, Scranton; Christine Lowe, Tunkhannock; and Barbara Latniak, Scranton; brothers-in-law, Charles Latniak and wife, Stella, Scranton; and John Latniak and wife, Luann, Weatherly; his aunt, Verna Gorski, Scranton; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was also preceded in death by three brothers-in-law, Chas Lowe, Peter Latniak and Thomas Drasba.

Services will be Wednesday at noon at the John F. Glinsky Funeral Home, 445 Sanderson St., Throop. Interment, private.
