Leonard J. "Len" Marchines Sr., 76, of Dickson City, died Monday morning at home. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Loretta Yarosh Marchines, on May 4, 2007. They had been married 46 years.

Born in Throop, son of the late Felix and Irene Rena (Rossi) Marchines, he was a member of St. Mary's Visitation Church, Dickson City. He was a graduate of Throop High School, class of 1955. Before retirement, he was the owner and operator of Y&M Trucking, Dickson City, for 34 years. He served with the Air Force and was a member of VFW Post 5937, Dickson City. He served in the Far East with the Air Force, attaining the rank of sergeant, and was honorably discharged in 1960. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and the Cold War Participation Certificate.

As a licensed private pilot, he enjoyed flying, hunting, fishing and traveling, going to Alaska twice with his motor home and numerous other places throughout the U.S. and Canada. He enjoyed his family and friends and especially the arrival of his great-granddaughter, Sophia Rose.

Surviving are a son, Leonard Marchines Jr., Florida; a granddaughter, Lori Ann Marchines; a great-granddaughter, Sophia Rose Kosciuk, all of Dickson City; a sister, Elaine Jellock, Clarks Summit; two nieces, Jacquelin Williams, Phoenix, Ariz.; and Elizabeth Katz, Tucson, Ariz.; and a grandnephew, Nole Katz, Tucson.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 9 a.m. in St. Mary's Visitation Church. Interment and military services will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Dickson City.

There will be no public calling hours. Arrangements are by the Frank T. Mazur Funeral Home Inc., 601 Dundaff St., Dickson City.
