Miles L. Havenstrite, Madisonville, passed away Friday at the Geisinger Community Medical Center. His wife of 52 years is the former Janet Phillips.

A lifetime resident of Madisonville, Miles was born in Scranton to the late Clarence and Freema Taylor Havenstrite. He was a member of the Madisonville Volunteer Fire Company and was a United States Army veteran serving overseas prior to the Vietnam War. He retired from Verizon in 2002 after 30 years of service.

Miles was devoted to his family and would do anything for the people he cared for. He loved gardening and fixing things and passing this knowledge to anyone that would listen. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman who especially loved taking trips to Canada with his fishing buddies. "Pop" has touched the lives of many people and he will be forever missed.

Also surviving are his sons, Miles and his fiancée, Sue Edwards; and Keith, all of Madisonville; and Mark of Lake Ariel; sisters, Jayne Haley of Carbondale; and Mary King of Florida; a brother, Glenn of Dickson City; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Jake.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. in the James Wilson Funeral Home, 143 Gravity Road, Lake Ariel, officiated by Rev. Art Davis.

Friends may call Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. Interment with military honors in Bear Brook Cemetery, Madison Twp. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Madisonville Fire Company, 3131 Madisonville Road, Madison Twp., PA 18444.
