Ramon J. Matter, 81, of Jessup, died Wednesday at VNA Hospice Inpatient Unit at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton. He was the husband of Doris J. Davis Matter, who died June 14, 1986.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., son of the late Walter and Laura Hess Matter, he was an Army veteran. Ramon earned his associate's degree from Penn State University and worked for Book Machine Sales before retiring. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoying hunting and fishing and was happiest when he was doing anything in the woods. He was also a talented craftsman.
Surviving are his daughters, Susan Afshari and her husband, Reza, Mayfield; and Christine Matter, Jessup; grandchildren, Ben Afshari and his wife, Kacie; and Cameron Afshari and his fiancée, Melissa Davitt; great-grandchildren, Misha and Maskim Afshari; and his sister-in-law, LaVerne Matter.
He was also preceded in death by his brother, Walter.
The funeral will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the Brian Arthur Strauch Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, 602 Birch St., Scranton, to be conducted by the Rev. Virginia Miner, pastor of First United Presbyterian Church, Peckville. Interment will follow at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Peckville.
