Richard W. Hankee, age 71, passed away on April 28, 2013, at his home in Archbald, surrounded by family while under Hospice care. He was born March 7, 1942, in Harrisburg, Pa., to the late Attorney Robert W. Hankee and Anne Frances Kielty Hankee.

Richard grew up in Archbald, Pa. He attended Archbald High and Scranton Preparatory schools. In 1960, after high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. Richard served and trained at Sheppard AFB, Wichita Falls, Texas, and Lackland AFB, Bexar Co., Texas, and earned a certification as a Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning Specialist. Richard earned an E4 rank before being honorably discharged in 1964.
In 1961, Richard married Jamie Marie Kinney in Bexar County, Texas. It was love at first sight; they were happily married for 52 years. Richard was a member of Saint Thomas Aquinas Church/Christ the King Parish, where he served as an Altar Boy in his early years. He played football for Archbald High School and was a member of the Scranton Eagles Championship Football team of 1971. Richard enjoyed the outdoors, he and his young family spent summers at Lake Wallenpaupack camping, boating and fishing. Richard enjoyed hunting, target shooting and taking long rides on his Harley-Davidson Motorcycle. He was a member of the American Legion and he was a lifetime member of the NRA. Richard and Jamie were frequent campers at Shore Forest camp ground for over 10 years.
Richard worked for and retired from Honeywell as an HVAC Specialist. Richard attended Purdue University and in 1984 he earned an Instructor's Certification and taught HVAC to apprentices for Local 524 Pipefitters Union, where he was a long-time member.
Richard was preceded in death by his two brothers, USAF Capt. Thomas J. Hankee and USAF Maj. William B. Hankee; a sister, Kathleen and her husband, William Wertz; a niece, Cecilia Calpin; and nephews, Timothy Calpin and Richard B. Calpin Jr.
Richard is survived by his spouse, Jamie Marie of Archbald, Pa.; his sons, Richard W. Hankee Jr. and wife, Linda, Crestwood, Ky.; James R.Hankee and wife, Abby, Clarks Summit, Pa.; and his two daughters, Anne Marie Hankee Evans and husband, Stephen, Archbald, Pa.; and M. Kathryn Hankee Mozeleski and husband, Daniel, Old Forge, Pa. Richard is also survived by eleven grandchildren, William and Trey Hankee, Kentucky; and Kasey Hankee Purcell, Kentucky; Mitchell, Alexandra, Blake and Rafe Evans, Archbald, Pa.; Christian and Brendan Mozeleski, Old Forge, Pa.; Sarah and James Hankee, Clarks Summit, Pa.; and one great-grandchild, Hayden Purcell, Ky. Also surviving are a sister, Mary Alice and husband, Richard B. Calpin Sr.; nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Thursday at 9 a.m. from the Harrison Funeral Home, 374 N. Main Street, Archbald, with Mass at 9:30 in Christ the King Parish/St. Thomas Aquinas Church. Interment in St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery.
