Thomas F. Calpin Jr., 74, of Dunmore, died Sunday morning at Hospice Community Care, Dunmore.

Born in Scranton, son of the late Thomas F. Sr. and Mae Verrastro Calpin, he was a graduate of Scranton Preparatory School, received a bachelor's degree from the University of Scranton and attended graduate school at the University of Buffalo and East Stroudsburg University. He worked as a teacher in many local school districts.
He was active in local sports and umpired for various baseball leagues. He was a kind person who cared greatly about the well-being of friends, family and the community. The family wishes to thank the many doctors, nurses and caregivers during his courageous battle with cancer.
Surviving are a brother, Francis T. and wife, Beth, Shavertown; a nephew, Tommy; a niece, Terri; and several cousins.
The funeral will be Tuesday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, Chestnut Street, Dunmore. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.
